Paul Wait is an economist with 30 years of experience specialising in transport consulting to the public and private sectors in Australia and overseas. His other sector experience includes energy, water and waste, communications, agriculture, justice and law and order, the arts, manufacturing, and health. Paul has also worked for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation and AusAid in Asia, the Pacific region and the Middle East. He has been responsible for the economic and financial assessment of a number of large infrastructure programs and projects and for providing advice to clients on strategic directions, competition and regulatory reform and pricing policy. In particular, he has conducted assignments in passenger and freight transport, covering land freight strategies and port interfaces, price and non-price influences on modal choice, evaluations of proposed new passenger and freight infrastructure improvements, funding of transport services and competition and regulatory impacts. He was involved in the compilation of the original economic appraisal guidelines for NSW Treasury in 1988. Paul has also assisted a number of government enquiries in the transport and energy sectors, and has provided expert advice to a number of different clients on competition and regulatory matters.
